In his role as General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, Chelan Goonetilleke oversees the operation of the company’s 259‑room flagship property. A seasoned Four Seasons leader with nearly two decades of global experience, Goonetilleke brings to his role a proven track record of hospitality excellence shaped by senior appointments across the Indian Ocean, Middle East, and North American regions.
Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Chelan’s international perspective was shaped early in life and later refined through a dynamic career with Four Seasons. He started in 2007 as Senior Director of Marketing at Four Seasons Resort Mauritius and Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, where he helped strengthen the profiles of these two celebrated properties. His success led him to Dubai, where he oversaw marketing for Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach and Four Seasons Hotel Dubai International Financial Centre, deepening his experience in highly competitive urban and resort markets.
In 2017, Chelan transferred to Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler, progressing through senior leadership roles before being appointed General Manager. Under his guidance, the Resort earned multiple distinctions, including 2 Michelin keys in 2025, the #1 Resort in Canada ranking by Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, and the #1 Resort in Canada honour in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.
“At Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, we take great pride in being the flagship property where our brand story began,” he says. “Our approach to hospitality is rooted in what Canada is known for, a warm welcome, genuine care, and the vibrant cultural diversity that shapes how we connect with every guest. Set in one of Toronto’s most notable neighbourhoods, we aim to offer an experience that feels naturally at home in the city while reflecting the thoughtful, elevated service that defines Four Seasons Hotel Toronto.”
Goonetilleke continues, “Being entrusted with the leadership of our flagship property is an incredible privilege. I look forward to continuing our tradition of warm, genuine hospitality, inspired by Canada’s welcoming spirit and rich cultural diversity, as we embrace the vibrant energy of this world‑class city.”
Outside of work, Chelan is passionate about food, drink, and the outdoors. He can be found exploring Toronto’s thriving culinary scene, discovering new cocktail bars, and spending summer weekends on the region’s many golf courses.
