Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village Announces Fall 2024 Collaboration with Los Angeles-Based Artisanal Stationery Designer Soolip for a Series of Bespoke Creative Arts Workshops

Beginning September 2024, Wanda Wen, founder and owner of the globally-recognized paper design studio Soolip, hosts a lineup of artistic workshops inside the greenhouse at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village.

Available to overnight guests of Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village and to the public, each class will inspire the inner creative through guided demonstrations and classes focused on the art of living with mindfulness, creativity, and of course paper. 
Price per class starts at USD 245 per person and includes expert instruction, all materials, light bites, and beverages. Additionally, each ticket includes day-access to the Hotel’s newest pool offering, The Cove.

Class Schedule for Fall 2024

Saturday, September 21 | Paper Play Stationery and Card Making | 9:00–11:30 am

  • Attendees will learn how to create unique personalized stationery using handmade papers and elements including pressed flowers, wax sealing, and printed matter. Everyone will leave with a collection of ten personalized note cards and ten gift tags along with a J. Herbin fountain pen with two ink colours.

Saturday, September 28 | Pixels to Thread, a Chakra Meditation of Head, Heart and Hand | 9:00–11:30 am

  • This workshop takes participants on a creative and healing journey combining needle and thread with imagery as participants transform their own photos into three-dimensional, tactile art pieces. Learn a simple running stitch and explore various other stitches, including alternating stitch directions and French knots, that will add unpredictable character, dimensionality and texture.

Saturday, October 5 and 19 | The Art of Copperplate Calligraphy | 9:00–11:30 am  

  • Attendees will embark on a creative adventure where they will learn and cultivate the artistry of copperplate calligraphy. Over the course of two classes, students learn the story behind letter forms and their evolution, practice all fundamental strokes making up all lowercase and uppercase letters, learn how to fluidly connect letters, and be given the inspiration and confidence to add personal flourishes to lettering.

Saturday, October 26 | From Paper to Pen to Page |  9:00 am – 12:00 noon

  • This two-part workshop begins with becoming familiar with handmade papers and using hand-dyed ribbons to create and hand bind a journal. With journal in hand, participants will then put pen to page to mine their stories, learning expressive writing techniques that help them access deeper levels of self-awareness.

Saturday, November 2 | Paper Alchemy |  9:00 am – 12:00 noon 

  • Dive into the art of collage – an interplay of colour, form and texture combining mixed media to create pieces that are steeped in personal expression and meaning. All materials are included with some paper materials from the artist collection available.
  • Instructor: Mary Nelville, mixed medica collage artist 

Saturday, November 23 | Photo Journal Book Making | 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

  • Create a unique, artistic album using a hand-stitched, 20-page, soft cover book structure as a blank canvas to create a treasured heirloom art piece. Participants will learn the main design principles, such as narrative and sequencing, page composition and architecture, and catharsis collage, that will result in a final piece that is delightful, tactile storytelling creatively archiving recent adventure, an ode to love or friendship, or celebration of new life.

Saturday, November 23 | The Art of Gift Wrapping | 1:00–3:30 pm

  • Participants will learn the basics of gift wrapping from Wanda Wen, the master wrapper herself! Wanda will teach the tricks of her trade that enable Soolip to consistently create beautifully wrapped gifts for its distinguished clientele.

Saturday, December 7 | The Making of an Enchanted Fairy House | 3:00–6:00 pm

  • Embark on an enchanting journey into the word of fairy tales and craftsmanship. Participants will create a magical heirloom fairy house inspired by Irish Celtic folklore and honouring the inherent magic of Mother Nature. Attendees will work with handsome stained birch wooden pieces and detailed hand-carved miniature wooden furniture to construct a fairy environment fit for any nature spirit, while further personalizing with delicate paper florals, natural dried mosses and minature home accessories. A delightful parent-child bonding experiences, and just in time for the holidays.
