Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora Raises USD 30,000 at Charity Gala

Special evening celebrating World Kindness Day benefitted The Terry Fox Foundation

December 6, 2023,
Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, named “Best Luxury Beach Hotel Worldwide” by Luxury Travel Advisor, recently hosted a charity gala benefitting The Terry Fox Foundation. The event raised more than USD 30,000 for the foundation, which supports and fundraises for bold, meaningful research to end cancer. Grounded in the core belief that kindness creates a meaningful sense of belonging, Four Seasons hotels and resorts around the world united in celebration on World Kindness Day and beyond through community and artistic collaborations and volunteerism.

The sold-out event, which was attended by Resort guests and local residents, featured exquisite passed gourmet bites, live-action stations, Champagne, wine, and cocktails set to live music and entertainment. Special guests included Terry’s younger brother Darrell and his wife Bonnie, who flew in from Canada for the event. Darrel spoke about his brother’s legacy and the support of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts through the years. The 16-lot live auction was conducted by Laura Chevallier and included extraordinary items such as local art from local painter Alain Despert and photographer Sadry Ghacir, black pearl jewellery by Tahia Hering, and stays at Four Seasons hotels and resorts around the world.

“This was a beautiful evening of connection, fun, and philanthropy,” says Romain Chanet, General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. “We are thrilled to have raised awareness and resources to help with cancer research alongside good friends and neighbours.”

Commitment to Advancing Cancer Research

Terry Fox, a 22-year-old athlete who lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, made headlines in 1980 when he ran 3,339 miles (5,374 kilometres) over 143 days across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer research. During the “Marathon of Hope,” Terry had averaged a marathon a day every day, with a unique running style as he used a prosthetic leg. While had planned to run across the country, he had to stop sooner than anticipated on September 1, 1980 as sadly the cancer had spread to his lungs.  He died less than a year later after raising CAD 24 million, achieving his goal of raising 1 dollar for every Canadian at that time.

Inspired by Terry, Four Seasons Founder and Chairman Isadore Sharp personally pledged to Terry’s cause in 1980 and wrote to 999 other Canadian executives urging them to support cancer research. Every year since, Four Seasons hotels and resorts around the world organize Terry Fox Runs and events in support of cancer research, in his memory. Today there are more than 9,000 annual Terry Fox Runs around the world, all volunteer led and organized. To date, more than CAD 850 million has been raised. What began as a single event is now part of its unwavering global commitment to the cause, with Four Seasons hotels and resorts hosting, sponsoring and participating in countless local events to benefit the Terry Fox Foundation and local cancer research and care facilities.
