Born in Paris and raised in the quaint village of Carrières Sur Seine, France, Anaïs Martin was always science-minded. She originally considered becoming a palaeontologist, though a fateful internship in French Polynesia steered her toward marine biology, and an eventual return to the destination as a WiseOceans Marine Biologist and Educator at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora.
While earning her Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Center for Research and Interdisciplinarity (CRI) at Paris Descartes University, Anaïs participated in a six-month internship and a semester abroad at the CRIOBE in Mo’orea. Here, she studied the impact of ocean acidification on calcifying organisms, and discovered her calling as a future marine biologist. While earning her Masters Degree in Marine Sciences at Sorbonne University in Paris, Anaïs embarked on two additional internships – the first back with CRIOBE, studying the genetic monitoring of fish releases (Siganus argenteus) in French Polynesia; the second in Thessaloniki, Greece, monitoring elasmobranchs bycatch in the small-scale fisheries of the North Aegean.
With degrees in-hand, Anaïs worked at Association Ailerons, in Montpellier, France, bringing awareness to the cause and ecology of sharks, countering mislabelling, and educating on shark consumption threats. From there, she was a Fisheries Scientific Observer at Sinay in Le Guilvinec, France, before returning to French Polynesia and joining the WiseOceans team at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora.
Anaïs speaks English, French, Spanish, a bit of Greek from her time in the Mediterranean, and is avidly picking up the Tahitian language since her arrival in French Polynesia. In her spare time, she enjoys diving, and flexing her creative muscles through sewing, jewellery making, and horror make-up.
