For I Wayan Agus Rama Dinata, a great cocktail starts long before the first pour. It begins with curiosity: a Balinese ingredient, an overlooked part of a fruit, or a new idea that might just work…

Returning to Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay as the new Head Mixologist at TELU, Rama brings an energetic, playful approach to the bar. Rooted in his Balinese heritage, cocktails are creative and considered, with sustainability at their heart.

Rama’s bartending journey began in 2016 – and what started as a job quickly became a true passion. “Over the years, bartending has become a way to express my creativity, meet inspiring people and continuously learn something new,” he says with a characteristic smile.

That spirit of exploration has forged a career built on ambition and constant learning. After earning his Diploma in Bartending from Platinum Training Centre in Badung, Rama has worked across leading hospitality destinations in Indonesia and the Maldives. From serving drinks aboard the Scubaspa floating resort in the Maldives to representing Bali’s Eazy Bar at the Giffard West Cup Indonesia 2026 finals, he remains open to life’s adventures.

Rama has grown through almost every side of the bar, from Bartender and Bar Supervisor to Mixologist and Bar Manager. Along the way, he has developed a nuanced understanding of both the craft and the people behind it. Even on his days off, the learning continues – with a healthy side order of fun. As someone who “loves being part of Bali's bar-tending community sharing knowledge, ideas and friendship”, Rama enjoys bar-hopping to discover new concepts, service styles and cocktail creations.

Competition has given Rama another way to explore and celebrate the ingredients and traditions of Bali. His first-place win at the Arak Cocktail Competition 2023 reflects his passion for a spirit deeply rooted in Balinese culture. At the East Indies Gin cocktail competition, his “1945” – a twist on the French 75 inspired by Indonesia’s journey to independence – earned him third place. He’s also enjoyed podium finishes in flair bartending, gin mixology and sustainable cocktail competitions. He particularly loves the thrill of flair, which has taught him confidence, discipline and the importance of consistent practice – not simply to perform tricks, but “to entertain guests and push beyond my comfort zone”.

Undaunted by challenge, Rama’s entrepreneurial spirit came to the fore during the pandemic, when he launched Tipsy Bali. The bottled cocktail brand - created to keep his imagination flowing during a time of crisis for the hospitality industry - continues to go from strength to strength.

Rama’s artful creativity now comes home to TELU. Having first joined the bar as Bar Supervisor in 2022, he returns with a fresh perspective and a clear ambition: to help put the island’s vibrant mixology scene firmly on the world map. At TELU, that vision finds a natural home – a place where sustainability, ingredients harvested from the onsite garden, and innovation come together. And when it’s time to step away from the bar, Rama swaps cocktails for mountain air and fishing lines – his favourite ways to slow down, recharge and connect with nature.
