With endless expanses of green merging into the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is by any account an island destination that defines FOMO. The reasons to vacation in Mauritius are many –the sun and sand, the serenity, the adventure – there’s something for everyone. And while sailing enthusiasts and surf-seekers have the run of the ocean here, “it is the island’s many magnificent golf courses that are one of the biggest draws for those looking to vacation on the island,” observes Martin Dell, General Manager, Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita.

Setting the Scene

Designed by former World #1 golfers, two world-class, championship golf courses within close proximity make the Resort a leading golf destination on the island. The Anahita Golf Club features an Ernie Els designed “tropical golf course,” built to USGA standards (the first of its kind in Mauritius) with the backdrop of majestic mountain scenery. “With wide, open fairways and six oceanfront holes, the course spans gorgeous island vistas and culminates in one of the most jaw-dropping final shots anywhere in the world,” says Armelle Duval, Director of Rooms.

Just across the lagoon from the Resort on the idyllic Ile Aux Cerfs island, the Bernhard Langer signature course is a bucket-list destination on its own for golfers in the know. This pilgrimage-worthy course winds through the lower half of the little islet and spans 38 hectares (94 acres) of reef-fringed golfing utopia. “A round of golf or even just some putting practice at this spectacular Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Club can be truly unforgettable,” she gushes. “Guests staying at the Resort get special access to the finest stretch of white-sand and turquoise water on Ile Aux Cerfs with Four Seasons own beachfront, featuring a fabulous La Plaz Beach Grill.

Like a Pro

Guests looking to improve their swing or work on their putting prowess can simply sign up for a lesson or two with a pro. Intensive one-on-one sessions (one hour or longer) must be reserved in advance and may be scheduled for either mornings or afternoons depending on availability and weather conditions. “The year-round good weather allows for almost 365 days of golf at Anahita,” says Duval. “Mornings are almost always perfect for teeing off.” Complimentary transport for players to Ile Aux Cerfs offers quick and regular access to the course, while special boat transfers with some of the best views of the lagoon can be arranged on request.

Golfers’ Island Getaway

For enthusiasts looking to challenge themselves or even just vacationers with time for a round or two, the Resort offers a number of fabulous golf itineraries that can be availed while staying at the Resort. Aimed at afficionados who would like to play daily, the Golfer’s Island Getaway package offers great value over longer stays with savings on room rates, and complimentary green fees for one round of golf per person at one of the two courses every day.

The Resort has a range of premium accommodation starting from one bedroom pool villas with garden and sea views. For guests travelling with friends or family, the Resort offers a selection of Two- to Five-bedroom Sanctuary and Private Retreats with expansive space and all the luxury of Four Seasons. “Golfers keen on keeping an eye on the games can even choose to book ahead and select Private Retreats with views over the golf course – our little insiders secret,” she smiles.

Island adventures

Staying “on-course” at the Resort can be challenging, however, with several other activities and experiences to choose from during the stay. “The island vibe can be infectious, so expect action-packed days,” Martin confirms. From snorkelling, stand-up paddling and watersports, to beachfront yoga sessions, cooking classes and even tennis lessons, guests can be hard-pressed to make time for it all. “And after a long days in the sun, the overwater spa is a great way to indulge yourself and recharge, while the Kids For All Seasons program ensures that our little guests are having just much fun and games as their parents,” smiles Duval.
