From starting out as a reservations agent to being appointed the first female general manager of a five-star hotel in Sydney, Helen Radic brings more than 25 years experience to her role as Director of Marketing at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.

Born and educated in Melbourne, a long-standing passion to travel and see the world inspired a career in tourism. It was a decision she would never regret. “Not only did the hotel industry bring the world to my doorstep, but it also brought me the love of my life and my children,” says Helen.

After completing a Bachelor of Business specialising in tourism, she started working for an adventure coach company in Victoria, working her way up from reservations to front office. Her first sales role was for a computer company: “I was this young sales girl surrounded by men and I didn’t even know how to turn a computer on, but I was the top seller,” she laughs.

Pursuing her talent for sales, she joined a small hotel chain in Melbourne – not only finding success in her career, but in love, meeting a chef who would later become her husband. Ambitious, smart, hardworking and a strong leader, Helen worked her way up to sales and marketing director of various five-star hotels along the Eastern Seaboard – from Brisbane and the Gold Coast to Sydney – taking underperforming hotels to the #1 position in their market.

In 2005 she was promoted to general manager of Sir Stamford Circular Quay – becoming Sydney’s first female general manager. “I loved the people and operations side of being a GM, but I missed sales and the direct responsibility of growing a hotel’s revenue,” says Helen.

In her current role, Helen is responsible for sales and marketing of the biggest Four Seasons property in the world, and the brand’s flagship Australasian hotel. Her vision is to build on its reputation as a landmark property by delivering a seamless, highly personalised guest experience from the point of booking through to check-out.

“When guests open up the blinds and let Sydney in, they see the beautiful icons of the Bridge and Opera House – which still take my breath away – and they want to go and explore,” says Helen. “On-site, we have the most knowledgeable and passionate staff who celebrate local ingredients in bespoke cocktails at Grain Bar and seasonal menus at Mode Kitchen and Bar. It’s all at our doorstep, and all from the heart.”
