¡Salud! Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler Launches El Patio Thursdays

The summer-long celebration captures the essence of Spanish-inspired patio gatherings

Summer calls for al fresco gatherings - and Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler has them covered with its new El patio experience.

This sunshine-y, spirited summer-long celebration is inspired by Spanish patio get-togethers, where people gather around fantastic food and drink in the warm summer air, say cheers with a ¡Salud! and savour the good life - all at the Braidwood’s newly renovated outdoor oasis. Think comfy lounge-style seating, flickering fire pits, a calming pond, and so much relaxed yet luxurious space to kick back in and enjoy.

The new open-air dining-and-imbibing experience is part of the Resort-wide Summer in Bloom, with heaps of glorious blooms surrounding the mountainside property’s famous vintage camper. A beautiful floral Instagram wall sets the backdrop for El Patio’s culinary experience - a must-hit spot for anyone who takes selfies.

Spritz up the evening with freshly made fruity, bubbly cocktails - just the thing to ring in summer in true Spanish style. These citrus concoctions are the result of the Resort’s partnership with Aperol, one of Spain’s most popular aperitifs. The bespoke Aperol Bar: Spritz Break will be serving two special cocktails, each one highlighting the bitter, orange beverage. The only thing better than being in Barcelona is being at El Patio, icy glass in hand.

A special El Patio menu is being served all summer, starring all-you-can-eat racion de paella, Spain’s classic bomba rice and sofrito dish. There is a rotating selection with three soulful varieties: seafood, meat and vegetables. The opening week showcased fresh, locally sourced seafood, organic chicken and pork rib with green beans, and artichoke and portobello (rotating seafood, carne, veggie) with vegetables and roasted pepper.

The meet-me-in-Spain meal starts with gazpacho Andaluz, cold Spanish soup made with fresh tomato, cucumber, and peppers. Then there’s queso Manchego and jamón serrano y pan con tomate - a traditional offering of freshly toasted bread topped with grated tomato, virgin olive oil, and sea salt flakes with aged Manchego and sliced serrano ham. Guests can choose one of the following tapas: tapa de chorizo, Spanish chorizo sausage with shishito peppers; ensaladilla rusa de gambas, potato salad with egg, prawns and local vegetables; or calamares a la Andaluza, fried calamari with lemon pepper aioli. For dessert, it’s chocolate con churros, Spain’s crispy fried dough with decadent chocolate sauce for dipping.

El Patio is home to live music by DJ Buddha Sax (a stellar saxophone-playing DJ). Young’uns love the children’s entertainment, with a balloon designer on hand to create on-the-spot objects of whimsy. A local artist will also be hosting art classes for pint-sized Picassos who wish to explore their creativity.

All this, for CAD 56 per person. Now that’s the good life.
